Incoming!!!

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Well, incoming care packages the likes of which most units have never seen. Today I was lucky enough to be at American Legion Post 28 just outside of Quantico Marine Corps Base in Dumfries, VA for the final pack-out of the care packages for the guys that lost all of their stuff at COP Keating. It was more ceremony than actual packing because most of that was already done and the items that were left out as examples of what was already on the way to our guys out in Afghanistan. Those items in the pictures are now on their way, too. Altogether through the efforts of the American Legion, Target, a network of military bloggers getting the word out, and (MOST importantly) a slew of generous donations from great Americans throughout this country $100,000.00 was raised in three weeks to replace items that were lost when the men of Combat Outpost Keating called in fire on their own position rather than let the Taliban have it. We cannot truly replace what they’ve lost, but this is a decent start if you ask me. OnTarget1

These are just some of the people that got the whole thing together.OnTarget2

These are two of the 58 laptops. 4 of the cameras, and a few of the DVDs on their way to the guys whole lost their own in a hail storm of steel and fire… that they called in on themselves. You might get pissed off if your computer broke… how would you feel if you chose to destroy your own computer rather than let an enemy have the info on it?OnTarget3Guitar Hero, Dexter, DJ Hero, more DVDs, controllers…OnTarget4More cameras, memory cards, X-Box Extremes, ethernet cables… it looks like a ton of stuff and it is a lot, but we can’t really replace everything these guys lost and we can’t ever really repay them for their sacrifices. I think the least we can do is let them play some Halo and type some e-mails home.

Thank you all again for every dollar, dime, penny, or peso donated. I especially want to thank Mothax at the American Legion’s Burn Pit for coming up with the modest idea of raising $10,000.00 to buy these guys some iPods so they could at least have some music to listen to and having it grow into a monster MWR effort ten times as successful.

Plus, I got to see a few of my friends without a priest, a judge, or a coffin present for a change. That was nice.

Enough With The PC Already

1_21_450alienI suppose they would prefer the term “undocumented extraterrestrial”?

LOS ANGELES —  A Southern California immigrant rights group on Friday asked the Target store chain and a costume company to stop selling an “illegal alien” Halloween costume it said is offensive to immigrants.

The costume features the mask of an alien with a green card and an orange jumpsuit with “illegal alien” written across the front.

Um, yeah. Shut up. Unless you are actually defending the rights of little green men (oh, and women… oh, and transgendered transsexuals from the Degobah System… gotta be PC here) then just shut right the hell up. In fact, no… maybe they’re right. Maybe we should pull all of those costumes from the shelves so that THE ILLEGAL ALIENS WON’T GE OFFENDED. Then we should pull all of the vampire, mummy, ghost, and Frankenstein costumes so we don’t offend the undead. Then we should pull all of the werewolf costumes so we don’t offend the lycanthropes. Then we should pull all of the police, fireman, and doctor costumes so we don’t offend people who work for a living. Then we should pull all of the princess, fairy, and Tinkerbell costumes so we don’t offend San Fransisco.

Seriously folks, I could give a rat’s ass about offending an illegal alien. I care about as much for them as I do drug dealers, welfare cheats, and thieves… they’re a burden on society and quite frankly I don’t care if they get offended.

Misplaced Priorities

BAGHDAD — A soldier used a Koran, the Islamic holy book, for target practice in a predominantly Sunni area west of Baghdad, prompting an apology from the military, a spokesman said Sunday.

Separately, mortar shells slammed into a residential area north of Baghdad, killing at least four people and wounding 30, most of them children playing outside, officials said Sunday.

The shelling occurred as clashes broke out in Shiite areas late Saturday despite a truce reached last week by Shiite politicians and followers of anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.

Iraqi police found the bullet-riddled Koran with graffiti inside the cover on a small-arms range near a police station in Radwaniyah, a former insurgent stronghold west of Baghdad, U.S. military spokesman Col. Bill Buckner said.

American commanders then launched an inquiry that led to disciplinary action against the soldier, who has been removed from Iraq, Buckner said.

The action, which happened May 9 and was discovered two days later, threatened to further strain relations between the Americans and Sunni allies who have joined forces with them against Al Qaeda in Iraq in Radwaniyah and other areas.

So let me get this straight: A Kuffar using a Koran for target practice threatens to strain relations, but a bunch of Muslims dumping mortar rounds into a group of civilians (mostly children) is okey dokey? Holy crap is that an effed up excuse for a society! Should the soldier have shot up the Koran? Probably not a good move in Muslim-ville… but to place more value on the desecration of a book than the lives of your citizens is almost farcically bizarre.

Get the picture people, when a society values a book containing fables written about a pedophile, his violent xenophobic tendencies, and his misogynistic mantras more than it values the lives of its own children there’s a real problem with that society. Furthermore, the propagation of that societal philosophy constitutes a clear and present danger to western civilization and the rights and freedoms for which we and our forebears have so desperately fought for and won.

Okay, I’m off my soap box now.
