I know that this is a lot of hypocrisy for a Monday, but bear with me.
Okay, there is this newspaper in Arizona called the Arizona Republic and they’re criticizing the sate republicans (ooohhhhh the irony) for the new immigration law. Their beef? Well, here are a few excerpts:
“The federal government is abdicating its duty on the border. Arizona politicians are pandering to public fear,”
And…
“The result is a state law that intimidates Latinos while doing nothing to curb illegal immigration.”
Really? Hmmmm, then I suppose this might come as a big surprise to them...
“Nobody wants to pick us up,” Julio Loyola Diaz says in Spanish as he and dozens of other men wait under the shade of palo verde trees and lean against a low brick wall outside the east Phoenix home improvement store.
Many day laborers like Diaz say they will leave Arizona because of the law, which also makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally and directs police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants.
An estimated 100,000 illegal immigrants have left Arizona in the past two years as it cracked down on illegal immigration and its economy was especially hard hit by the Great Recession. A Department of Homeland Security report on illegal immigrants estimates Arizona’s illegal immigrant population peaked in 2008 at 560,000, and a year later dipped to 460,000.
So even before the new law took effect Arizona’s polies regarding illegal immigrants curbed illegal immigration by about 20%. How low will it drop AFTER the law takes effect? Probably pretty damned low. I guess that whole “The result is a state law that intimidates Latinos while doing nothing to curb illegal immigration.” was just a flat-out lie. Not a huge surprise. So why does this vex lefties so? Because it’s effective and makes the left look really bad. It always makes bleeding hearts look bad when effective laws that are actually enforced have positive results… especially when they’re made and enforced by the other team. That being said, what IS the left’s answer?
The newspaper called for reform that allows for current undocumented immigrants to earn citizenship, secures the borders and puts tough sanctions in place for employers who hire undocumented immigrants.
Uh-huh. So let me put that in other terms of illegal activity:
The newspaper called for reform that allows for current drug dealers to earn their pharmacy degrees (just by being here), secures the borders and puts tough sanctions in place for pharmacies who hire drug dealers.
The immigration “reform” garbage hasn’t worked so far, why would it now?
