Seperation Of Church And State

Do I even need to comment about how stupid this is?

ASHEVILLE — North Carolina’s constitution is clear: politicians who deny the existence of God are barred from holding office.

Opponents of Cecil Bothwell are seizing on that law to argue he should not be seated as a City Council member today, even though federal courts have ruled religious tests for public office are unlawful under the U.S. Constitution.

Voters elected the writer and builder to the council last month.

“I’m not saying that Cecil Bothwell is not a good man, but if he’s an atheist, he’s not eligible to serve in public office, according to the state constitution,” said H.K. Edgerton, a former Asheville NAACP president.

Article 6, section 8 of the state constitution says: “The following persons shall be disqualified for office: First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.”

Too bad for H.K. Edgarton (lunatic-NC) that the US Constitution trumps state constitutions when it comes to protecting civil rights and making sure that there is a clear seperation of church and state. Had the North Carolina state constitution said “The following persons shall be disqualified for office: First, any person who shall be black, or any shade of tan darker than a faded suede jacket” it would still be state law… and still just as unconstitutional, discriminatroy, and illegal. And it’s a good thing for H.K Edgarton that it doesn’t say that considering that Mr. Edgarton was the president of the NAACP in NC for a while. What is truly remarkable is Edgarton’s late stage psychosis because it would take a truly daft and/or retarded black man to a) try to sue the state of North Carolina for not discriminating and b) pine for the days of slavery…news2

“If they go ahead, then the city of Asheville and the board of elections could be liable for a lawsuit,” said Edgerton, who is known for promoting “Southern heritage” by standing on streets decked out in a Confederate soldier’s uniform and holding a Confederate flag.

Epic insanity. Epic retard. Truly epic fail.

  1. Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia.

  2. SSG Medzyk says:

That’s not the “Confederate Flag”. That is the CSA Naval Ensign, adopted by the infantry to better establish friendly lines for battlefield control.

Ignorance of history, and the racist blathering of those prominant Liberal black leaders that wish to continue the physical, mental, and financial separation of race in this country have made the CSA ensign the symbol of white hate. They forget (or refuse to recognise) that their political side fought hard to CONTINUE slavery in the USA prior to the War Between The States. Civil War about slavery? Doesn’t seem logical, when Lincoln “freed” the slaves in 1863….two years AFTER the first shots were fired on Sumpter.

The CSA ensign is indeed a symbol of slavery. A LIBERAL symbol. Conservatives got over it long ago.

True enough that the civil war was over states’ rights… but to ignore the fact the rights in question were the rights to join the union as free states or slave states is absolutely illogical. Slavery was indeed an issue that led to the civil war. Was it an altruistic opposition to slavery? Nope… more financial than anything. Free states couldn’t compete with a paid work force against slave states in the south. It might have been the right thing to do but I don’t think it was done entirely for the right reasons at the time. At least that wasn’t everyone’s motivation.

And I never said that the civil war was about slavery in the first place. I said that this guy pined for the days of slavery… and he does. Read his website and you’ll see what I mean. He actually says that the slave/master relationship was misunderstood and that is was more of a give-and-take/symbiotic relationship. Well, if that’s the case where are all of the accounts of white masters getting tied up and whipped?

I don’t buy into reparations or revised history or the “you owe me just because I’m black and I didn’t ask to come here” thing either… but this guy is a friggin’ loon even without the Civil War connection. You can’t be elected because of your religious beliefs (or lack thereof)? Totally whack-job.

Sniper, I guess I didn’t convey my thoughts well enough. I agree with you! Race mongers have kept the black man a virtual slave since the Civil War, to only further their financial standings. ie; Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

As to your blog post: My belief in God in no way trumps anyone’s right to run for political office. The voters will decide who they really want, regardless what a state’s Constitution says. Legally, they guy can run. Spiritually, he’s already lost.

  5. The Sniper says:

We’re definitely on the same sheet of music. Race mongering is the problem, not the solution. As for the guy’s religion or lack thereof… don’t give a rat’s ass. If the guy wants to worship Spongebob Square Pants I don’t give a care as long as he’s fiscally conservative and supports, defends, and doesn’t deviate from the Constitution. His spirit isn’t my concern. That might sound cold, but I’m just laying it out there.

  6. spongebob is really funny but she sort of overacts sometimes.`*~
