Aw Jeez… This Is The Nastiest Thing Ever

September 17th, 2008 by The Sniper

It’s the newest medical treatment for a problem called Clostridium difficile, and it’s called fecal transplant. Yes, you read that correctly… fecal transplant. Fecal transplantation is just what it seems to be… putting somebody else’s poo in your poo place. Read on…

A controversial new treatment, which involves the transplantation of human waste, can treat cases of C. difficile infection. But only a handful of physicians in Canada undertake the messy procedure.
Clostridium difficile is a superbug that commonly spreads in hospital settings and has been linked to the deaths of at least 2,000 people in Quebec since 2003, as well as in other provinces.
Fecal transplants have become the first-line treatment for chronic recurrent C. difficile in Scandinavia. As well, more and more doctors are using it in the United States.
Feel free to wretch.

C.Diff is no joke. It killed my Dad. He suffered from recurrent infections the last year of his life and it was miserable. If a fecal transplant could have given him some comfort in his last months, I would put aside my distate and go for it.

Apparently it could have saved him almost instantaneously. They’ve had some cases of complete revocery within days, if not hours, of transplant.

I just can’t picture a doc on ER or House or whatever screaming “Gimme a turd! STAT!”

And you have my deepest condolences for your dad.

It sounds like a horrible way to go. I have tons of stomach problems and I wouldn’t wish them on the bottom 70% of my enemies.

Some (like child molestors, kidnappers, rapists, etc) can have as much stomach misery as possible as far as I’m concerned.
